5 Important Tips for Your First Online Date
Most of us are romantic by heart from an early childhood and have the dreams of a fantasy date with our Mr. Perfect or Miss Perfect. Moreover, these days with the advancement of Internet, your dream date might be waiting for you with just a few clicks of the mouse. Why don’t you give online dating a try? The first date always brings strange feelings like butterflies in the stomach, a fast beating heart and a chill down the spine. The fear and nervousness rises even more when you go for a blind date. So, below are 5 important tips that you can keep in mind while going out on your first online date:
- As a safety precaution, remember that there’s no hurry to reveal your home address and personal details, and it is always safer to meet in public places where the two of you will not be alone. Try not to be late when meeting as this is usually a sign of disrespect, and when it comes to paying the bill, it is always nice to offer to pay if you are the gentleman, but splitting the cost might be the most appropriate option in order to make a more mutual and comfortable situation.
- When you are going for your first online date, always keep in mind that the person you used to chat with may seem completely different to when you meet him / her personally. So have an open mind when meeting in person and look forward to discovering if a relationship may come about. Usually three dates would be considered a fair amount of time to get a good idea of the person. However, if you really feel that this person is not right for you after the first date, then being honest about it will save you a lot of time and trouble.
- Don’t make the first date a hush-hush affair. This does not mean that you need to publicise your date, but at least tell one of your closest friends about it and where you will be incase of any trouble.
- The first date shouldn’t be a very expensive affair. The point of a first date is to “get to know” the person, so avoid going to the movies or places where you can’t engage in a conversion. Moreover, the level of physical activity needs not to be that high. Try to be just like a friend and most importantly be yourself. Avoid discussing things which are going to bring a heated debate i.e. political views, religion, etc, and aim to have a more relaxed approach. Trying to over impress may come out the wrong way and might actually loose you some points.
- Whether having sex on the first date is a good thing has always been a matter of question. Though some people do engage in sexual activities on their first date, it would be a smarter choice to throw that plan out the window. If all goes well on the first date, you will have plenty of time for sexual activity. Also, dress to impress is key, but not to seduce. And one more thing, kissing doesn’t mean having sex, so don’t forget to plant a goodbye kiss on your date’s cheek before leaving.
